Fort Gateway

Positioned between massive rectangular bastions, this gateway consists of a north-south passageway flanked by seven columns on each side. To the north, walls with stone facing and earth fill define an approximately square enclosure. This is open at the west end of the north side.

The two-storeyed, plaster covered façade is Islamic in style. The lower storey consist of three arched recesses in rectangular frames. The arches are each in two planes, and have foliate medallions in the spandrels in the spandrel and similar designs at the apexes. The central arch is completely pierced as a large opening; on either side the arches are partly filled to create smaller arched openings.
