Basement of Large Mixed Building

Facing east in Danniak’s enclosure, this structure is surrounded on four sides by earth and rubble walls. Though an elaborate entrance is partly visible in the debris to the south, no communicating passage can be made out. The characteristic stepped outline of this struc¬ture is created by a series of basement mouldings at different levels. At the east end, this basement is reduced in height but increased in complexity. Flanking the entrance steps in the middle of the east side leading to the first level are large striding elephants.

The up¬permost level is reached by two flights of steps with badly smashed balustrades on the west; to the north and south, steps descend to the walkway. Several stone foot¬ings are seen on the outer walkway and court, some obviously misplaced.
